EPIC - Educational Policy Improvement Center
Executive Director, Chief Academic Officer
Matt Coleman, DEd, has worked at every level of the secondary education system, from educational assistant to assistant superintendent. As assistant superintendent in Springfield Public Schools, he led and supported high school reform efforts that increased cohort graduation rates, decreased dropout rates, increased enrollment in advanced programs, and significantly reduced the disparities in achievement between different cultural groups. In 2014, Matt took on the role of Executive Director at EPIC in order to work alongside district and school leaders nationally to promote and support systemic secondary school change. Over the past two years, under Matt’s leadership, EPIC has established partnerships with over 75 schools and created networks of schools to support each other in strategic direction, thinking, and action. He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a doctorate in education from the University of Oregon as well as a master’s degree in teaching from Lewis and Clark.
